The application files must be submitted exclusively electronically by Monday, September 30, 2024, in order to be registered by the Secretariat of the Postgraduate Program. A number of candidates will be selected from these applications up to the maximum number of thirty (30) students for the Program. The interviews for the candidates will be scheduled after the announcement of the date and time.
English language exams, for those who are required to take them, will be held on a date to be announced in advance.

INTERDEPARTMENTAL MASTER’S PROGRAM
“TECHNOLOGY, QUALITY, AND SAFETY OF ANIMAL-DERIVED FOODS”
APPLICATION SUBMISSION ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Ichthyology and Aquatic Environment of the School of Agricultural Sciences and the Department of Food Science and Nutrition of the University of Thessaly invite interested individuals to submit their applications for the Interdepartmental Master’s Program (I.M.P.) “Technology, Quality, and Safety of Animal-Derived Foods” for the academic year 2024 – 2025.
The postgraduate studies within the aforementioned I.M.P. lead to the awarding of a Master’s Degree and require the successful completion of five (5) compulsory courses during the first semester.
The courses are:
- Composition, Quality Characteristics, and Nutritional Value of Animal-Derived Foods
- Quality and Safety Control of Animal-Derived Foods
- Processing and Preservation of Animal-Derived Foods
- Legislation and Quality and Safety Management Systems for Foods
- Marketing Strategies for Animal-Derived Foods
Additionally, students are required to complete and successfully defend their Research Master’s Thesis during the second semester.. Each course is equivalent to six (6) ECTS credits, while the Master’s Thesis (M.T.) is equivalent to thirty (30) ECTS credits, for a total of sixty (60) ECTS credits. The I.M.P. leads to the awarding of a Master’s Degree titled “Technology, Quality, and Safety of Animal-Derived Foods.”
A maximum of thirty (30) new postgraduate students are admitted to the I.M.P. each year.
The tuition fees for the I.M.P. amount to a total of €3,000. The fees are paid in four (4) equal installments of €750 each: the first installment is due within one week of the final announcement of admitted students, the second at the end of the first semester, the third in June, and the fourth prior to the thesis defense.
Teaching may be delivered in a hybrid format, consisting of: a) in-person instruction, and b) distance learning through modern synchronous and asynchronous e-learning systems, in accordance with the provisions of Law 4957/2022 (Government Gazette 141/A/21-07-2022) and the General Regulations for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Thessaly.
Eligible for admission to the I.M.P., following evaluation, are graduates of higher education institutions in Greece or equivalent recognized institutions abroad, holding degrees in Agriculture, Food Science and Technology, Dietetics–Nutrition, Biochemistry–Biotechnology, Biology, Veterinary Medicine, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or other related fields.
Candidates will be evaluated by a Selection Committee based on the criteria outlined in the I.M.P. internal regulations. In addition, students who have not yet completed their degree may apply, provided they have fulfilled their academic requirements and obtained confirmation of degree completion by the evaluation date.
The acceptance of applications is based on selection criteria specified in Article 34 of Law 4485/2017, which include: 1) Degree grade, 2) Grades in courses relevant to the collaborating departments, 3) Thesis grade, 4) Knowledge of the English language (an English language test is required if the candidate does not have a recognized certificate), 5) Computer skills, 6) Professional experience, 7) Any existing research activity, 8) Other relevant details in the resume (e.g., other postgraduate degrees, second degree, etc.), 9) Oral interview.

From these applications, a number of candidates will be selected until the maximum of thirty (30) students is reached. Interviews with candidates will be scheduled and the details will be announced to them.
If necessary, English language tests will be conducted on a date to be announced in advance.

The application package must include the following documents:
- Application form for the I.M.P. (available at https://afood.dpms.diae.uth.gr).
- Photocopy of identity card.
- Detailed CV.
- Copy of degree or diploma.
- Copy of equivalency certificate from DOATAP for degrees from foreign universities (if applicable). Failure to provide the equivalency certificate does not render the application incomplete, but its submission is necessary for obtaining the Master’s Degree.
- Copy of transcript of grades.
- Two original recommendation letters.
- A sworn declaration (Law 1599/1986) certifying that the photocopies of the documents submitted are authentic copies of the originals. This declaration must be issued via the official website https://www.gov.gr/.
Additionally, if applicable, the following documents must be submitted:
(a) Copy of English language proficiency certificate,
(b) Copy of computer skills certificate,
(c) Certificates of participation in seminars, research, European or educational programs,
(d) Copies of scientific publications or presentations in Greek or international journals, or proceedings of scientific conferences,
(e) Copy of another degree from an HEI or TEI,
(f) Copy of another Master’s Degree, and any other relevant document mentioned in the CV.
