Quality Assurance Policy
The Quality Assurance Policy of the Department of Food Science and Nutrition (TETD) is directly aligned with the corresponding policy of the University of Thessaly (UTH) and is developed in cooperation with the Internal Quality Assurance Unit (MODIP), as well as the services of the University. It places significant emphasis on the continuous improvement of the quality of the curriculum, as well as the research and administrative activities of the Department. Quality assurance is an ongoing developmental process and is fully compliant with the operational standards of the University, adhering to the guidelines set by MODIP.
Since its first year of operation, the TETD has established the OMEA Committee, which currently includes all members of the Teaching and Research Staff, and is responsible for matters of significant importance, such as conducting student evaluations of courses, preparing annual and four-year evaluation reports for the Department, among others. The primary objective of the OMEA is to make recommendations to the relevant bodies of the Department regarding ways to improve the quality of education offered to students, evaluate the level of research activities and administrative operations, and monitor the achievement of the SMART goals related to the Department’s development.
The Department is committed to ensuring the quality of its educational, research, and administrative activities. The TETD offers modern and competitive undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs, with a strong focus on innovation, sustainability, quality, and high-level research. The Department recognizes the paramount importance of the contribution of Quality Management to ensuring equal access to knowledge, international recognition, external outreach, and collaboration with national and local production bodies and community organizations.
The goal of the TETD is to attain high operational quality standards, continuously improve the level of its educational and research outputs, and implement best practices in accordance with international academic standards. These principles are based on key elements such as the structure and content of the curriculum, the effectiveness of teaching activities, the provision of knowledge and qualifications in line with National and European Higher Education Frameworks, the training and scientific activities of the teaching staff, the quality and breadth of the Department’s research work, the integration of teaching and research, the relevance of graduates’ qualifications to the labor market, the quality of supporting services (administrative services, libraries, student welfare services), the annual monitoring of progress, and the cooperation between OMEA and MODIP of the University.
The action plan for the upcoming years focuses on updating and enhancing the curriculum, attracting funding for basic and applied research, continuous monitoring, feedback, and qualitative evaluation.
