ΤThe Department of Food Science and Nutrition was founded in 2018 and is part of the School of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Thessaly. Teaching staff currently includes 10 academics faculty members, 1 teaching and technical staff member and 8 part-time teaching staff. Currently, the Department includes 180 active registered students and 6 PhD students.

Mission of the Faculty is the training of new scientists in the fields of food science, food processing, food technology, quality and safety assurance and the effect of nutrition on human health.

Department graduates can be employed in the Food Industry, in production, quality (chemical-microbiological) control and compliance with food and beverage quality and safety control systems and standards, in food-beverage analysis laboratories, in food business consulting companies, in companies trading in food and raw materials, as well as in positions of Food Scientists in the Public Sector.
