Showcasing Innovative Research in Food Science and Nutrition

The speeches by the Head of the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, Mr. Ioannis Giavasis, and PhD candidate Chrysanthi Mitsagga marked the conclusion of the international conference GreenNutriFood, held from April 7-9, 2025, in Dubrovnik, Croatia. During the event, the results of two research projects funded under Measure 16 of the Ministry of Rural Development and Food were presented.

As part of the Biowineries project, Mr. Giavasis presented the paper titled “Characterization of indigenous microflora and quality parameters of natural Greek red wine, produced with natural antioxidants, without the use of sulphites and starter cultures.” Meanwhile, for the results of the Innovapoultry project, Ms. Mitsagga presented the paper “Beneficial effects of natural feed additives from olive fruit, pomegranate peels, and grape pomace on growth, gut microbiome, and meat quality of broilers.”

The conference provided an excellent opportunity for the dissemination of research findings and international networking for the Department, all set in a particularly beautiful and friendly environment with a rich historical backdrop.
