Course Outline: Biochemistry
Course Responsible: Sandra Martín Peláez
The Biochemistry course introduces students to the molecular mechanisms governing the function of living organisms, serving as a bridge between chemistry and biology.
Starting with the physicochemical properties of the cellular environment and acid-base balance, the syllabus focuses on enzyme structure and function, cell signaling mechanisms, and the principles of bioenergetics for cellular energy production (ATP). Subsequently, it examines the primary metabolic pathways of carbohydrates, lipids, and nitrogenous compounds, as well as the fundamentals of plant biochemistry and photosynthesis.
The course concludes with an integrated overview of cellular pathways, providing students with the essential scientific background to understand biochemical processes at the molecular level.
