EDUCATIONAL TRIP OF THE DEPARTMENT OF FOOD SCIENCE AND NUTRITION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF THESSALY: VISITS TO FOOD INDUSTRIES AND CULTURAL MONUMENTS
From January 27 to 30, 2025, the Department of Food Science and Nutrition of the University of Thessaly, with the support of the University, organized an educational trip with 22 students from the Department and their accompanying professors, Mr. Ioannis Giavasis and Ms. Chrysanthi Mitsagga, and the organizational support of Mr. Theofanis Georgopoulos. The trip included visits to food industries such as “Stergiou” (Bakery Products/Athens), “Mitsopoulos Farm” (Meat Processing – Sausages/Corinth), Palivou Estate (Vineyard, Winery/Nemea), “Laconia Juices” (Fruit Juices/Sparta), “Molon Lave” (Olive Mill – Olive Oil Packaging/Sparta), and “Laviogal-Kyriakakos” (Dairy Farm/Monemvasia), to which we express our heartfelt thanks for their excellent hospitality and willingness to share with our students images, knowledge, and experiences related to food production, quality control, and marketing. These experiences will serve as valuable tools for their professional careers.
The educational trip also included accommodations in Corinth, Nafplio, and Sparta, as well as brief visits to sites of historical and cultural interest, such as the archaeological site of Mycenae, the rock of Monemvasia, and the medieval city of Mystra. The trip was a complete success, providing unique experiences for all participants. We thank the food companies that hosted us, the Vice Rector for Finance, the guides, and the participating students for their excellent collaboration.
