Course Outline: Nutrition in Different Life Stages

The goal of the course is to recognize the specific dietary requirements in terms of nutrients and the factors that influence both these requirements and dietary behavior at various stages of life. Within this context, the course covers the requirements during: the period before conception, pregnancy, breastfeeding, infancy, childhood and adolescence, special situations during the young and middle adult phase, and the elderly years.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Understand the changes that occur in humans at different life stages.
  • Know how nutrient needs are adjusted according to the stage of life.
  • Comprehend the factors that influence food choice and consumption.
  • Grasp the impact of both physical and psychological changes that occur in different life
  • Be aware of the major health issues related to nutrition that affect individuals from
  • conception to old age.
  • Collaborate with classmates to create and present an assignment.
